About Me

Emily lives in Thirsk, North Yorkshire and works across North Yorkshire.

Emily studied Music at The University of Huddersfield, where she was Principal Oboe of the University Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra for 3 years as well as playing with the New Music Ensemble, in a production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen and performing Bellini's Oboe Concerto with the Wind Orchestra.

She joined the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014 where she plays oboe/cor anglais. Tours with the orchestra include two New Year tours of China, two tours in France and the Isle of Man. Memorable performances with SPO include Sweeney ToddThe Flying Dutchman, Tosca and Mahler's Symphony No.2.

Emily is co-founder of De Mowbray Music, based in Thirsk, which is a music venture set up in 2020 with musical director Benjamin Ellin to bring more musical opportunities, including both community and professional music, to Thirsk. Emily is currently Project Manager for both De Mowbray Music and De Mowbray Music Festival which is a weekend of professional and community events in August each year.

Having completed a PGCE in Secondary Music at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2017, Emily has worked as a high school classroom music teacher at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, Ripon Grammar School and Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate.

Flute is her primary instrument (Grade 8 distinction) and oboe is her secondary instrument (Grade 8 merit). Emily majored in performance for her degree, performing on both instruments.

Teaching the Eduqas Music GCSE and A-Level spec at all three schools has given her a great insight into the completion and marking of performance and composition coursework, so she is happy to help with those aspects, as well as general exam prep and music theory.
